Natural Cleaning ProductsThere was a time in the not too distant past when no one used chemicals to clean. Before World War II, most cleaning products were made from coconut oil or other natural sources. Because the war caused a shortage of these organic sources, cleaning products began to be made out of petroleum. Eventually, this led to the widespread use of chemical cleaning products that we see today. As concerns for our health and the environment have mounted with the use of these products, efforts have been made to switch to more environmentally friendly items. What people have found is that organic products such as vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice are actually just as effective as the average chemical cleaner, but without the negative effects to health and the environment. Once you are used to chemical cleaning products it can be difficult to go back to the home-grown solutions that your grandparents used, but there is no reason not to.

As people slowly become aware of how synthetic products impact the environment and our way of life, organic products are swiftly growing in popularity. An organic product is essentially any product created through natural means. This can be anything from agricultural products, to foods, to consumer goods like clothing and aesthetic products. There are many rewards for using naturally produced products. They tend to be better for your health, they often taste better, they are beneficial for the environment and they are usually created from renewable resources. Sure, sometimes they are harder to find and a bit pricier than regular products, but as the organic movement has gotten bigger, these potential problems have become much smaller.

How will organic cleaning products change your life? Well, to begin with, going organic calls for a shift in perspective. It means seeing the big picture, the long-term effects that we are inflicting on the world we live in and each other. Instead of using non-organic items that may seem more beneficial in the short term, organic users choose cleaning products that have benefits that last long after they are purchased and used. The truth is that natural cleaning products will advance your life because they have no harmful chemical consequences, and they endow you with a sense of conscientiousness. Organic products provide the peace of mind that comes with knowing the cleaning oil you are using does not contain chemical pollutants and is completely safe for your home, or that the shampoo you are using does not have potentially carcinogenic ingredients in it.

If you are interested in improving your cooking and culinary skills, you may want to take a look at some wonderful herbs that truly can and will enhance your efforts in the kitchen. Through this blog, you are provided with a look at some of the more useful and tasty herbs that literally can spice up your cooking and baking.

Of course, this itemization of useful and delightful herbs is not an all inclusive list. However, by coming to understand and appreciate these herbs, you really will be on a course to better your culinary efforts on behalf of your family, friends and loved ones.

Basil, bay leaves, garlic, cinnamon, chives, ginger, oregano, parsley – what’s in your kitchen? All of these herbs and dozens more can be used not only to flavor your favorite dishes but to add a bit of zest to your overall health and to treat minor maladies.

Let’s start with garlic. Garlic is both a food and a healing herb and can be used to help treat serious diseases. It blocks the liver from producing too much LDL (sometimes termed “bad” cholesterol) without lowering the body’s production of HDL (”good”) cholesterol. It also appears to have some effect in lowering blood pressure, helps prevent blood clots, and acts as an antibiotic.

A teaspoon of freshly grated ginger (or less) can sooth tummy upsets and put an end to menstrual cramps. It brings relief from motion sickness, and adding a bit of diced ginger to chicken soup brings relief from cold and flu symptoms. Not to mention the medicinal qualities of gingerbread. It’s a happy food.

Cinnamon can lesson joint pain. Its anti-inflammatory properties can bring relief to arthritis sufferers. It aids in circulation and can help keep blood sugar on an even keel.

Basil is a good source of vitamin C and beta-carotene. As with other members of the mint family, it is a mild antibiotic; in addition, it has been demonstrated to kill some intestinal parasites.

Not just for cooking, oregano is high in antioxidants and can be used to relieve coughs.

Five Tips on Preparing Your Laundry for Washing and Drying

Introduction:

Without a doubt, the prospect of doing the laundry is dreaded by the typical person. In point of fact, there are a number of tips associated with the chore of laundry that can make the whole process far easier and much less of a drudge. By paying attention to the do’s and don’ts referenced in this article, you will be well on your way to mastering the care and cleaning of your everyday clothing.

These tips are designed not only to make certain that your clothing is spotless once cleaned but these suggestions are provided to extend the life of your garments and to save you sacred time in the process.

Soak, Soak, Soak

One of the biggest problems that most people face when dealing with laundry is the task of making certain that stained clothing comes clean. The typical person in this day and age lacks the time to spend pre-treating and scrubbing away at pieces of clothing in hopes that a stain will disappear.

The best technique that you can employ in dealing with removing stains and making certain that your clothing comes out sparkling clean is to presoak your wash every time. The practice of presoaking is simple and requires very little time and almost no effort on your part.

When it comes to presoaking, simply add the proper amount of laundry detergent to water drawn into your washer. Make certain that the detergent is thoroughly blended throughout the water. When this is completed, add your clothing. Allow your washables a chance to soak for between twenty to thirty minutes before you begin the regular wash cycle.

Always Sort Your Colors

The 21st century truly is a point in history where people are overscheduled and overbooked. They simply find themselves cutting corners whenever and wherever possible. However, when it comes to time saving techniques, failing to sort out your colors when you do your laundry is not a wise course. Sure, you will save a spot of time while loading your washing machine. But, in the long run, you will find yourself spending more time replacing damaged clothing. In addition, in short speed you will discover that many of your garments do not look flattering any longer — colors fade and become dull when colors are not properly separated before cleaning.

Don’t Overload

You may think that you can save yourself a great deal of time — and maybe even some money — by overloading your washing machine. You may be like some people who try actually to cram upwards to two load of laundry into one machine cycle.

In the final analysis, overloading your washing machine can have a number of negative consequences:

– First, your clothing will not become fully clean in an overloaded machine.

– Second, your clothing will be more apt to be burdened with detergent residue if you overload your machine.

– Third, overloading a washing machine can end up damaging your equipment in a very short amount of time.

Manage Your Cycle

One of the best ways that you can ensure that your clothing enjoys a long life is to make certain that you pay attention to the type of cycle that best serves your garments. In haste, many a person pays no attention to monitoring or managing the correct wash cycle for clothing items.

While most people understand the necessity of separating out clothing items of different colors, the same people do not pay attention to the wash cycles that are called for different garments. By failing to pay attention to what type of wash cycle is best for a particular type of clothing, you will be aging your garments before their time.

Avoiding Wrinkles

There are three steps that you need to keep in mind when it comes to avoiding wrinkles in your wash. Wrinkled clothing and dealing with wrinkled clothing can be the most frustrating and time consuming element of tending to laundry.

– First, pay attention to when your washing machine completes its work. By promptly removing your clean clothing from the washer directly after the spin cycle ends and putting the garments into a dryer will work to reduce a significant amount of wrinkling that normally is associated with laundry.

– Second, pay attention to the temperature setting on your dryer. Do not ratchet the dryer temperature up too high. High temperatures tend to increase the presence of wrinkles in some clothing.

– Finally, as with the washing machine, pay close attention to when your dryer completes its cycle. Remove the clothing promptly in order to avoid undue wrinkling of your garments.

Conclusion

By making the effort to follow the five tips outlined in this article you will find that your clothing is cleaner and freer from wrinkles after each and every laundering. In addition, your garments will enjoy a longer lifetime if you do follow these pointers and suggestions. Finally, by applying the tips outlined in this article, you will end up saving yourself time and money over time.

Organizing your childs playroomIn this day and age, the typical parent has set aside a particular room or area in the house to serve as the playroom or play area of a child or children. There are a number of great reasons why it is beneficial to set up a specific playroom or play area for children. One reason that tops the list for many parents is the fact that by having a playroom or play area, you can avoid having other areas of the house becoming a dumping ground for kid’s toys.

Of course, even if you have developed a special space for your children to play, it nonetheless is important for you to maintain a sense of order and organization in a playroom or play area. With this in mind, you might be wondering what steps you can take to ensure that keeping order is as easy as possible. Like many parents, you simply do not have the time, let alone the desire, to spend a great deal of time sorting through, putting away and organizing your child’s toys.

First of all, when it comes to organizing a child’s playroom, you need to make sure that you get your youngster involved in the process. Of course, depending on the age of your child, there will be some restrictions as to what your child actually will be able to accomplish in this regard.

Second, you need to make certain that you have organizational tools and related materials available to make certain that you can properly organize a playroom or play area. Moreover, you will want to make certain that any such products you acquire are of a type that can be accessible to a child, that a child can utilize in the organizational process.

For example, you will want to find appropriate shelves and cabinets to help organize and store your children’s toys and entertainment items. In addition, you may want to consider buying toy chests. Toy chests have been useful for generations and there simply is not reason not to make use of these suitable products in this day and age.

Third, when it comes to organizing your child’s playroom or play area, you should set aside a specific time each and every day in which “clean up” will occur. Your child will know that he or she needs to take a break from playtime at that time to help you get things put back in order.

Fourth, you may want to encourage (or require) your child to only take a certain number of toys out at one time.

Finally, you actually can make organizing and clean up time enjoyable in and of itself. You do not have to make it a complete drudgery. Keep your mood up, have your child participate and incorporate organizational time as an integral part of play.

girl-helping-with-the-chores-jynmeyer.jpg Kids should have chores. Here are some ideas to get your children involved.

Make a list. Write down all the things you to have done and put it somewhere where the kids can see it. The list can be simple or as hard as you like. Write down the job and the length of time it should take to do the job.

Assign the tasks. Either just give jobs to the family or pick randomly. Be sure to change the jobs frequently.

Show the kids how to do the chore. Spen some time teaching them exactly what you want done for each chore. Be very specific, show them how you want them to load the dishwasher.

Know what your kids can do. Every child has different skills. Give them the chores that they will feel comfortable doing.

Praise your kids. Look over what your child did, and be specific with your praise. “I really like the way that you cleaned up all your brother’s toys.” If you praise them regularly they will be excited to do chores to hear the praise.

Start a reward system. It helps if you reward your child from something good they have done. You can set a price for each chore done, or points they can save up for things they want (like more TV time or video games).

Make it fun. You should be able to enjoy yourself even if you are doing ‘chores’. Let the kids listen to music, or make it a game that the person who cleans the fastest gets a prize. Always have fun chores too, like picking flowers or baking cookies.

in-the-fridge-by-monique72.jpg Here are some handy tips to help you to avoid sharing your kitchen with unwanted guests.

1) Don’t let your fruit get over ripe sitting out, this will attract fruit flies.

2) Discard your rotten vegetables; they will cause your other vegetables to rot too.

3) Check your fridge for foods that are spoiled every couple of days.

4) Make sure your raw meats are kept on the bottom shelf; this way if they drip they won’t contaminate other foods.

5) Make sure your cooked meats are always above the raw meats.

6) Know what’s in your cupboards. Go through them every once in a while, wipe the shelves and throw away the food that has expired. Make sure you put the older products in the front so they are used first.

7) Keep things like flour, crackers, rice and other dry things like these in tightly sealed containers. This will stop bugs from getting inside.

gloves-by-aksoy.jpgGuess what? You only need four things to clean most of your house: water, vinegar, baking soda and lemon. Here’s how.

Cleaning your wood cutting board: All you need is dish washing liquid. But to clean those extra pesky stains wipe with an old cloth soaked in vinegar.

Cleaning your microwave: Wipe down first with a wet sponge and dish washing liquid. To clean that odor out wipe down with your wet sponge and baking soda.

Cleaning your tiles. Use vinegar and water to disinfect.

Cleaning your toilet. Use vinegar and it will sanitize, clean rings and lift the lime deposits. Let the vinegar sit in the toilet for five minutes and then flush.

Cleaning your bathtub: Water and vinegar mixed and scrubbed on the tub will do a good job. (Note: Remember to rinse afterward or else the acid in the vinegar will wreck the tub.)

Cleaning your linoleum kitchen floors: The gentlest solution for your floors would be vinegar and water together.

Cleaning your wood shutters: Dust each slat separately with a wet (but not sopping wet) cloth. Using dish washing liquid and water will do the best job cleaning the shutters for you.

Cleaning the grout and mildew in your shower: Use a toothbrush dipped in bleach and water. Scrub really good and rinse.

sandwiches-for-blog.jpg Food poisoning is always a concern when cooking in the kitchen. It is valuable to you and your family to take some daily precautions in your kitchen so it doesn’t happen to you.

Keeping clean. There should be no food in any form on your counter, this includes crumbs and smears. Always wash your hands before and after handling food, especially meat and fish.

Keeping dry. Items in your cupboards should be in airtight containers. This will deter bugs because they hate dry surfaces and environments.

Keeping cold. Keep your fridge and freezer at the proper temperature—no higher than 4C for fridge and no higher than -18C for your freezer. Try to keep your other foods in cool places.

Keeping tidy. Keep the clutter down in all areas of your house. Clutter provides more surfaces for dust and dirt to be present. This can be a great place for insects and bacteria to accumulate.

Note: Keep these danger zones very clean. These are places that are the places where bugs like to be.
